The greatest deeds of mankind.
There is a statement for you to ponder over. But before you do, consider what the word ‘deeds’ refers to and consider your answers in the context of helping mankind, if you please.
The caveman that invented the wheel could hardly be considered for such a reward. Although the wheel changed the world at that time. it wouldn’t have been long before someone else came up with the idea. And the invention wasn’t made with the intention of helping mankind, merely as a means to move things around.
No, consider deeds that individuals have done that have had an impact on [my] people’s lives and for the greater good. I will leave it with you to write a list, in your own time. The challenge then would be to define how many of those you list did whatever it was they did, knowingly for the greater good of mankind.
There are many people from history that deserve the award. Although there are still some people in your modern times that would qualify, there are fewer these days than ever before.
The materialistic drive has taken over society of your generations. Fewer people are focused on helping others before first helping themselves. This is a key difference. Read my words again. Help others before helping self. Now - back to your list. How many would be eliminated from it now?
Also to consider is, the deeds need not be of a grand scale. The greatest deeds might be done by one person to another. Perhaps someone chose to give their life to save another. Would you consider that a great deed worthy of recognition? And when you’ve spent time listing and then eliminating these great people, ask a question. Are you on that list? If not, why not? Have you lived your life without doing any deeds for others without benefit for yourself? Ah, the list has grown by one, I hope.
Now we come to the basis of my conversation with you. The greatest deeds have yet to be achieved, and every human living on the planet earth could still achieve that merit. Not just once, or twice, but many times over their lifetime.
So although I started the conversation talking about the greatest deeds of mankind, we now know that every person could, and should, qualify. If humans changed their selfish attitudes and cared more about others, the so-called society would equally change. The world would become a better place, don’t you think?
So what will be your greatest deed this day, this week and this year? Is it important enough for you to care about it, or do you consider my words as mere philosophy?
The greatest deeds of mankind lie in your abilities. Helping others, putting them first is a rewarding way to live life.
