Embrace Change, I Never Did

THE MESSAGE

In your ever changing world it can appear hard to learn to stand still for long enough to take stock. Here is the good news, it has always been that way and always will be. When I lived that life, there was so much change happening that
I feared for my future. We had what you have come to know as the industrial revolution. That was soon topped by the discovery of electricity and ways to harness the power.
Everything was reflecting the changes. For me, born to earth in the 1830s, it was frightening and change was all around our lives. Towards the end of my life there, vehicles were invented and combustion engines were beginning to be the big thing. No, I did not view the world with excitement. And then, at the end of my stay, the world chose to have a war that affected so many countries and cost many thousands of lives.
So you might think the changes in your current world are unique to you, individually they are, but change in itself has always been there. Your world is no different in that respect than ever in the past. If anything, your world offers better security, more laws and rules, better politics and more awareness of the individual’s rights. Your voice today can be heard, listened to, and responded to according.
Those people that suggest the changes taking place are frightening are correct. Change to the unknown is scary. But it has always been that way. The one point that is important to remember is that mankind will have to make many mistakes along the way. Those mistakes are where the learning is done. Mistakes are a sign that things most certainly will get better. Its the course of things.
This was not my thinking when I was there. I never managed to embrace change. It was always ahead of me and I never understood the reasons why these changes were needed. I never understood why candles weren’t good enough, or why having an ability to flush our messes away in the toilet would become acceptable.
Later in my life I didn’t understand why Marconi and Bell and the like were apparently doing ground-breaking things with radio waves. I didn’t appreciate the changes and just wanted to live in the past. It was when I settled in this life that I was able to look back, as if through new eyes, and appreciate how far the world had evolved in my 83 years on the planet.
I am not saying I had regrets for who I was and the way I viewed the world. That was who I was. But I am saying that when I had the good fortune of arriving here I was able to see everything from a completely new perspective. Frankly speaking, a much wiser and more rational outlook.
Your world is changing. Your world will change and you will not stop it. But that does not stop you finding the time each day to stop, to be grateful, and to be ready to take on the next challenge without fear.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my philosophical look back and forward guidance. Believe me, you would not want to live in a stagnant world where nothing advanced, nothing improved, nothing of contributive value ever occurred. Your world, our world and my world are remarkable places never to be taken for granted. Your world, my world is the best aspect of our lives together. Let change happen and go with the flow.
